memorial cup was played for in Union Hall on the 24th July. Ross played Castlehaven in the
first game and were lucky to come away with a 1 point win. In the
final Ross played Caheragh and after a hard fought first half Ross
pulled away in the second period to win and retain the cup which was
presented to Ross captain Peter Hill by members of the O’Regan
family. Ross would like to thank the Castlehaven club for their
hospitality providing refreshments and medals to each player.
It was back to Ross on Saturday where Sam Maguire’s were
visitors. A series of matches were played for 7 to 10 year olds. A
great morning was had by all and Medals and refreshments were
sponsored by Pascal O’Brien and presented by Cork footballers John Hayes and Kevin
MacMahon. A big thanks to all who helped on the day. Training
continues on Saturday morning at 11am in Newtown.
On Thursday evening last the U12 hurlers welcomed Bantry to
Ardagh for their final league match of the season. For the first
time this season the Rangers had their full panel available. Ross
started well and raced into an early lead but credit to Bantry they
fought back and got two late scores, and when Tom Hayes blew the
whistle the Rangers led 2-2 to 1-1 at half time. The second half was
an evenly contested affair with scores hard to come by, but the Ross
lads kept the score board ticking over. The result at the final
whistle was Ross 3-4 Bantry 1-2. The next game for these lads is
in the championship against Timoleague at the end of August.

Carbery Rangers senior footballers advanced to
the quarter final of the
Cork county championship, with a convincing 1-14 to
8 points win over Dohenys in Rosmore on Friday evening last. Ross
were first to get on the score sheet when John Hayes put the ball
over the bar, Dohenys equalized shortly after. Then from the kick
out Ross put in a lovely passing movement involving Michéal
O’Sullivan, Declan Hayes and John Hayes scoring the only goal of the
match, and this proved to be a valuable cushion for the Rangers.
James Fitzpatrick was next to score as he kicked over a free,
Dohenys reduced the lead briefly before Seamus Hayes put over
another free. John O’Rourke punched one over, and then we had a
Michéal O’Sullivan long range effort rewarded with another white
flag. Declan Hayes added his name to the score sheet giving Ross a
1-6 to 4 point lead at break. Ross were well on top in the opening
half with a strong wind across the pitch made scoring difficult.
John
O’Rourke got a fist to another Rangers effort as the second period
began, and Michéal succeeded with another long distance kick. John
Hayes had the next two points for Ross from play. John O’Rourke
punched his third point before James Fitzpatrick had a free
converted. Ross were now seven points to the good and when John
Hayes scored from the side line, Rangers were on their way to the
next round and all that was left was a John O’Rourke point on the
stroke of full time.
Ross will now play either Douglas or
Carbery in the quarter final.

and won out on a score of 2-15 to 1-8. It was Carrigaline who were
first to score but when Ronan Milner was fouled, Christopher
O’Donovan was on hand to slot over the resulting free. Chris was on
target again from a free when Gearóid O’Brien was fouled. Then John
O’Rourke was on hand to score the first Ross point from play, and
whenEoin
Lane intercepted a
passing movement from the Carrigaline backs he delivered a perfect
ball to Padraig Hicks, who found the back of the net. Chris then had
his first point from play while Padraig added another from a free to
leave Ross well in command 1-6 to a single point for the Carrigaline
men after fifteen minutes. Two more points for Carrigaline followed
and when a long pass out of defence found Padraig he went on a solo
run before raising the green flag for his second goal of the game.
Chris then found Eoin with a lovely pass and he duly put it over the
bar, it was then Christopher’s turn to be on the receiving end of a
fine pass from John O’ to give Rangers a very commanding lead at the
break of 2-8 to 3 points.
Carrigaline
came out with all guns blazing early in the second half and inside 2
minutes had registered a goal and a point, as they set about making
inroads to the Ross lead. Three more points followed as they put
Rangers under pressure and the lead was down to just 4 points with
fifteen minutes remaining. Ross responded in great style and for the
remainder of the game the Ross backs held Carrigaline scoreless. The
first Ross point of the second half came from Ronan, and then
Gearóid O’Brien added his name to the score sheet. Gearóid was then
fouled and Chris pointed the free while the same two players
combined again to score another from play. Terry O’Donovan won a
great ball on the wing and after a solo run he found Peter Nagle
unmarked and his effort raised another white flag. With time running
out Terry found Christopher and with his left leg he scored his

to the next round of the championship after defeating Na Piarsaigh
fairly comfortably in Bandon on Sunday evening. Ross were after two
defeats and needed to get back to winning ways if they were to be
still involved in the championship.
Rangers
started well and had a goal chance early on, a couple of wides were
also registered before slotting over three points in as many
minutes, two from placed balls taken by John Hayes and one from play
by Seamus Hayes. Then followed two magnificent points from Michéal
O’Sullivan both from the 50 meter range. John had one from play,

In between John had a fisted effort over the cross bar to leave

score of 3-09 to 9 points in Brinny, on Friday evening last. Ross
received an early blow with the concession of a goal in the first
minute and faced an uphill battle from the very start. Ross replied
well and were on level terms after ten minutes, after scoring 3 fine
points and were leading by 2 points before conceding 2 points to the
opposition to go in at the break on level terms.
Ross
were first to score in the second half, but in the fifth minute the
game took a major turn when Ballincollig got past the defence for
their second goal. Ross did reply with a point but it was to be

difficult to break down a very solid defence.
Ross

recovered from this set back and failed to score for the remandier

Newcestown away. They nearly paid the price when they conceded a

25-11-09 Rosscarbery under 16 footballers played Youghal
in the County Final in Youghal,
on Sunday last and were defeated on a final score of 2-07 to 1-04.
Ross were playing with a strong wind in the first half and had built
up a 1-03 lead after just 10 minutes, however another point was all
they had to show for the remainder of the game. Youghal got their
first score of the game on the quarter hour mark which was a well
worked goal, they were level after the second minute in the turn
around and picked off three more points to give them the advantage.
Ross tried hard to come back but in the heavy conditions found
progress hard to make against a physically stronger team. In the
final minutes Ross had the ball on the Youghal goal line but could
not get it past it and in the final kick of the match Youghal scored
their second goal to wrap up the game. Team: D Dignan, D O’Brien, M
O’Donovan, M Hourihane, S Vickery

Ross
under 8’s and under 10 footballers had their last training session
of the season on Saturday morning last. They gave a great welcome to
senior captain Seamus Hayes who dropped in to show them the Kelleher
Shield trophy that Ross won recently. These young footballers had an
eventful season with a match or training every Saturday morning. The
club would like to extend its thanks to Michael O’Rourke and his
fellow trainers and coaches who gave their time to these youngsters
over the summer months.

Rosscarbery under 16 footballers advanced to
the county championship final when they defeated Sam Maguire’s on
Saturday last in Dunmanway, winning on a score-line of 4-05 to 1-06.
The Ross boys played with a strong wind in the first half and were
slow to settle, indeed their was a quarter of the match gone before
they got their first score. This was a brilliant point from a
sideline kick from the boot of Thomas O’Rourke, which tied up the
game. Shortly after Timmy O’Donoghue was on hand to punch the ball
to the back of the net. Another goal followed as Paul Shanahan
converted a penalty and Timmy finished off the half with a point
from play to leave the Ross boys winning on a score line of 2-2 to 2
points.
Ross had it all to do in the
second period as they faced the elements and especially as Sam
Maguire’s goaled in the first minute. Timmy pointed a free along
with one from play before Paul converted his second spot kick and
Ross were looking good as Sean O’Regan had a pointed free. The game
was really wrapped up when Timmy punched his second goal and their
was no way back for the home side despite scoring four second half
points.
Ross
will be pleased to be in the final but a big improvement on their
first half performance will be needed. In fairness the second period
was much better and Michéal O’Donovan came more into the game along
with fellow backs Michael Hourihan and Stephen Vickery. Cathal
Prendergast too had a fine game while Timmy did most of the scoring,
Gearóid O’Brien did a lot of hard work and the return of Terry
O’Donovan after suspension should further strengthen the
forwards.
The
final will be probably be played on the 14th of November against either Youghal or
Millstreet at a venue to be decided.
Team:
Donal Dignan, Damien O’Brien, Michéal O’Donovan, Michael Hourihane,
Stephen Vickery, David Flavin, Eamonn O’Mahony, Cathal Prendergast,
Thomas O’Rourke, Gearóid O’Brien, Sean O’Regan, Tadgh O’Mahony,
Brian Hodnett, Timmy O’Donoghue, Paul Shanahan. Subs: Brian Hayes,
Vincent Hodnett and Cian O’Mahony.
Carbery Rangers minor
footballers had an easy victory in the league on Monday when they
travelled to Aghada to play the home side winning by 1-12 to 1-2 and
now qualify for the knock out stages.
We had no winner of the lotto jackpot on Monday night last.
Numbers drawn were 1, 7 and 14, Lucky dip winners were €50 Denis
Nyhan, €30 Mary Healy Clonakilty, €20 Brian HayesWarren Road. Next week the draw will take place in
O’Driscoll’s Bar Reenascreena for a jackpot of €1200. 21-10-09
Carbery Rangers senior footballers were crowned
league champions when they defeated county champions and near
neighbours Clonakilty in the final of the Kelleher Shield, played in
Dunmanway last Sunday. The Ross men had to field without three of
their championship starting team, and the loss of competitive action
over the past few months was expected to give the edge to their
opponents, who are still involved in the Munster
championship after their recent county
championship success.
It was
Clon who scored first but that lead only lasted for a short while
before Declan Hayes and John O’Rourke combined to put Seamus Hayes
through for a brilliant goal and Ross were never to be led again as
they dominated proceedings for the remainder of the half. Indeed
they were also unlucky not to score a couple of more goals as they
pushed forward. At the other end Maurice Moloney was in superb form
stopping a penalty and another point blank save to deny the Clon men
a way back into the game. Ross led at the break by 1-05 to 2 points
thanks to points from Seamus (3) Michael Mennis (1) and Johnny
Murphy (1).
In the
second period the county champions fought their way back into
contention and reduced the lead down to 2 points. Ross picked it up
again and second half scores from John Hayes (3) and Brian Shanahan
(1) put them ahead at the final whistle on a score line of 1-09 to 9
points. This was Carbery Rangers first competitive senior final
victory since joining the senior ranks and was a tremendous
achievement for the club, holding the current county champions to a
single point from play in the process. The Kelleher Shield Trophy
was presented to team captain Seamus Hayes by county board
Represintive James O’Neill after the game. Seamus thanked his fellow
players and panellists for the amount of work they put in, also to
the selectors Johnny Murphy, Mick Connolly, Jeremy Murphy and the
Carbery Rangers officers and backroom team before wishing Clonakilty
the best of luck in their quest for further honours in the
Munster championship.
Rosscarbery under 16 footballers advanced
further in the championship with a comfortable win over Passage on
Saturday last in a game played in Newtown
. Ross did most of the good work in the first
half and thanks to two late goals from Damien O’Brien and Terry
O’Donovan, Ross were in control at the break on a score of 2-06 to 3
points. The second half was a scrappy affair with both teams content
with playing out the remaining time just adding 3 points each and
the dismissal of a player from each side on the stroke of full time
was unnecessary and will be a source of disappointment to the home
side as they continue their journey this Saturday against Dunmanway
in Clonakilty, at 3pm in the county semi final.
Congratulations to Gabriel O’Driscoll
Reenascreena who won the club lotto jackpot prize of €3600 last
week. The numbers drawn were 11, 12 and 13, next week the jackpot
prize is €1000 and the draw takes place in O’Brien’s
Bar
14-10-09
Carbery Rangers U16 footballers made the short
journey to Clonakilty’s impressive pavilion at Ahamilla on Saturday
last, to take on Sam-Maguire’s in the West Cork Final. Both teams
were slow to get started as scores were hard got, with Ross leading
by 6 points to 2 points. Thanks mostly goes to the accurate free
taking of Sean O’Regan and the strong play of David Flavin and
Cathal Prendergast. A miss-directed free out of Rosscarbery’s
defence left Sam’s in for an opportunist goal on the stroke of half
time. Ross turned to play with the sun and slight wind to their
backs, but it was Sam’s who took the game to Ross. Quickly
equalising and then taking the lead for the first time, ten minutes
into the second half. Ross dug deep and excellent play by Michael
Hourihane, Thomas O’Rourke and Gearoid O’Brien drove Ross forward.
Soon the teams were level. A goal and two points were soon to follow
from the boot of the hard-working Terry O’Donovan which gave Ross a
great boost. Ross were five points up with seven minutes to go, when
Sam’s struck for goal to set up a grand stand finish. Once again
Ross dug deep and hung on with two late pointed frees by Sean
O’Regan. This left the final score: Carbery Rangers 1-13 to Sam
Maguire’s 2-6.
This was a welcomed victory for the Rangers as under age
championships have eluded the club recently. Well done to all
involved with the team. The cup was presented to a Jubilant Ross
captain, Michéal O’Donovan by Board na nÓg secretary Eddie Moloney.
Ross now play the city winners next weekend in Ross. Scorers for
Ross: Sean O’Regan 0-6, Timmy O’Donoghue 0-3, Terry O’Donovan 1-2,

Ross minor footballers bowed out of the
championship at the semi-final stage on Saturday last when they were
defeated by Bantry on a score line of 10 points to 6. Ross were slow
to settle and were three points down after 10 minutes, which left
them chasing the game from early on. Things didn’t improve in the
remainder of the half and Ross were down 7 points to 2 at the break.
Ross played much better in the second period and had the lead down
to 2 mid way through. But the loss of John O’Rourke through
suspension took its toll and though having good possession Ross
found it hard to score. Team: Paul Shanahan, Alan O’Regan, Michéal

Carbery Rangers’ minor team advanced to the
semi-final of the Premier county championship when they defeated
O’Donovan Rossa by a single point after extra time in a trilling
contest, at Castlehaven on Sunday last. Ross were playing well in
the first half and were in control until Skibb struck for a goal
after on the quarter hour mark and took a two point lead at the
break. Ross trailed by five points with 10 minutes remaining when
Peter Nagle found the back of the net with a blistering shot to
bring Ross right back into contention and were level three minutes
later, as they mounted a spirited fight back. Both teams traded
points in the remaining time and it was 1-11 each at full time. In
extra time Ross dominated the first period and scored four points
while conceding only one. The final period was full of excitement as
O’Donovan Rossa fought back with 2 points and their final effort was
narrowly wide as Rangers held on for a great victory and will now
play Bantry on the 26th. Team:

Rosscarbery under 12 hurlers played 2 championship matches over
the past week. First up it was against Kilbree in the replay in
Ardfield. After a close encounter Ross won on a score of 1-01 to 1
point. The backs played really well in this encounter with Danny
Reynolds putting in a top class performance in the back line and
John Hodnett in goal was superb. Adam O’Mahony was very impressive
while Adam Barrett finished the all important goal with Jack
O’Donoghue getting the point. It was off to Timoleague for the semi
final next against Kilbrittain and once again Ross came out on top
with Ciaran Prendergast and Cathal O’Rourke getting 2 goals each. We
also had goals from Brian Calnan, Michéal O’Mahony and Jack. Davy
O’Donovan at midfield scored a fine point and Robert Hegarty had 2
very impressive outings well assisted in the back line by Edmund
Beese and Sean Gordan. Maurice Allshire was doing a lot of hard work
while Cian Daly was very impressive Subs: Denis O’Driscoll, Brian
O’Sullivan, Cathal Hennessy, Cian O’Hea, Chris Prendergast, Arron
O’Flynn, Kieran Vickery and Stephen O’Donoghue all played in a 7-01
to 0-01 victory to qualify for the final against Timoleague.
Ross

played simultaneously against the host club with all participants
enjoying themselves.
The

blitz against Skibbereen, Dunmanway and Fermoy. Ross defeated
Skibbereen by a goal but were beaten by Dunmanway and in a very
closely contested game against Fermoy they tenaciously hung on for a
two point victory, Carbery Rangers would like to thank Dunmanway for
inviting them to what was a very well organised event with all
participants receiving medals and refreshments after their
efforts.
We
wish John Hayes and the Cork

09-09-09 The replay of the Rosscarbery versus Kilbree
game in the under 12 hurling championship went ahead in Ardfield on
Monday evening last. Both sides put up a good show in the first half
under extreme weather conditions with wind rain and fog making it
difficult and the sides were level at the break when the referee
called off the game as the rain got worse. And so they will have to
meet for a third time to get a result.
The
Carbery Rangers senior team played their final league game of the
season on Saturday evening when they recorded a good victory over
Glenville on a score of 2-14 to 1-09. Carbery Rangers have a total

26-08-09
Our under 16 hurlers were
in championship action last week against Ahan Gaels in Rossmore and
were narrowly defeated by 4-10 to 4-08. Ross trailed at one stage in
the second half by 11 points and put up a really great show in the
final 20 minutes coming within a whisker of victory as the final
effort grazed the post in the dying seconds, an effort that would
have given them the victory, but it was not to be and so ended their
championship hopes for another year. Team: Paul Shanahan, Gearóid
O’Brien, Cathal Prendergast, Kieran O’Sullivan, Eamonn O’Mahony,
Ruben O’Hea, Michéal O’Donovan, Terry O’Donovan, Timmy O’Donoghue,
Thomas O’Rourke, David Flavin, Cian O’Mahony, Conor O’Brien, Daniel
Hodnett, Brian Hayes.
The
junior d team played Muintir Bhaire on Saturday evening in Durrus
and were defeated by 9 points to 5. The result was disappointing as
Ross had played a few recent league matches and had got good
results. The scoring was low and it took a quarter of an hour before
the first score was registered by half time the Rangers were
trailing 5 points to 2 and a big effort was required in the heavy
surface as the rain poured down. Ross did not score until the last
10 minutes and at this stage they trailed 9 points to 2. Despite
scoring 3 on the trot it was too little to late and so they bowed
out of the championship for another season. Team:
Roy Hawkins, Niall Fitzpatrick, Jeremy Murphy, Padraig O’Donovan,
Eoin Milner, Michael Walsh, Peter Nagle, Gerard Flavin, Sam Dignan,
Brendan Canty, Ronan Milner,
Eoin Lane
, Raymond Hayes, Philip Moore, Colm Milner. Subs: Mark
Tobin and Denis Calnan.

Carbery Rangers U-10 footballers continued on
their winning ways on Sunday last winning the Timoleague Harvest
Festival blitz. Ross played Bandon in their opening game and came
out easy winners. Sam-Maguires had also come out winners in their
opening game against Timoleague. It was Carbery Rangers and
Sam-Maguires in the final. Ross played with a strong wind in the
first half with a nice lead of 3-5 to 0-1. Dunmanway with the wind
in the second half played well but were unlucky to see their shots
go narrowly wide on 3 or 4 occasions. Ross broke up the field to
score a few nice points as well as a goal and came out winners on
this occasion. It was a great team performance and this team are
improving in every game. The club would like to thank Timoleague for
their hospitality, refreshments and trophy. Training will take place
