Carbery
Rangers Senior team won the Tadgh Crowley cup with a good victory
over Nemo Rangers in Clonakilty on Sunday last. Ross played against
the wind in the first half and were level at the break, despite
conceding a goal earl on. Much was expected from the Ross men in the
second period and they duly obliged, giving a great display and
finishing off some lovely passing movements, scoring some cracking
points to build up a six point lead before Nemo scored their second
goal in injury time from a free kick and it made for some nervy
moments but the Ross boys held out to win 0-16 to 2-07.
The Junior team were in league action on Monday night in
Dunmanway against the home side and won by 1-08 to 1-06. This was a
result that looked most unlikely as the Dohenys led by 4 points to
no score after twenty minutes. Sean O’Neill opened the scoring for
Ross with a point and two more from Niall Hayes and Colin Murphy had
Ross back in the game, but a goal for the home side on the stroke of
half time gave them the advantage. Ross were level early in the
second half when Niall found the back of the net from a penalty
after Sean O’Neill was pulled down. Rangers hit the front with ten
minutes to go as Kieran Fitzpatrick scored a fine point before
Padraig Hodnett got the final score. Team: Robbie Ahern, Daniel
Harte, Stephen Hicks, Michael Cussen, Anthony Roche, Enda Favier,

Eoin
Lane and
John O’Rourke gave Ross the win on a final score of 1-09 to 6points.

Carbery Rangers minor footballers played
the final of the league against O’Donovan Rossa in Castlehaven last

Carbery Rangers senior team got off to a good
start to the season when they defeated old rivals Ilen Rovers in the
Tadgh Crowley cup first round game played in Ardagh last Sunday.

six point lead at the break. In the second period Ross held that
lead and ran out winners by 18 points to 12. On Sunday next Carbery

of the 2009 league on Sunday last in Ardagh, against Timoleague and
won on a score of 3-6 to 2-4. Ross trailed at the break by two
points and in a close second half Ross gradually built up a 5 point
gap, before Timoleague finished in a flourish scoring a goal and a
point to leave just 1 between them with time almost up. However Ross
responded brilliantly and scored a goal just before the final
whistle to give them a well deserved win and the league title.

six point lead, but the game was wide open again as Millstreet
scored a cracking goal after 10 minutes. However the response was
good and four more points from the home side and penalty save from
the Ross goalie put them 1-13 to 1-5 at the final whistle. The Final
will probably be played this weekend against O’Donovan Rossa. Team:

On
Friday night last the U14 hurlers travelled to Castlehaven to take
on Mizen Rovers in the semi final of the league. On a bitterly cold
night both sides lined out under lights for the first time. The
first half was a very evenly contested affair and when Pat
Fitzgerald blew for half time the Rangers led 2-01 to 1-02 . Some
astute positional changes by the management yielded great benefits
in the second half and the Ross lads scored some great goals. When
the final whistle blew the score was 6.04 to 3.05 to the Ross lads.
They now face Timoleague in the final possibly played over the
Christmas period. Team J Hodnett, A O’Donovan J Hodnett

25-11-09 Rosscarbery under 16 footballers played Youghal
in the
County
Final
in Youghal,
on Sunday last and were defeated on a final score of 2-07 to 1-04.
Ross were playing with a strong wind in the first half and had built
up a 1-03 lead after just 10 minutes, however another point was all
they had to show for the remainder of the game. Youghal got their
first score of the game on the quarter hour mark which was a well
worked goal, they were level after the second minute in the turn
around and picked off three more points to give them the advantage.
Ross tried hard to come back but in the heavy conditions found
progress hard to make against a physically stronger team. In the
final minutes Ross had the ball on the Youghal goal line but could
not get it past it and in the final kick of the match Youghal scored
their second goal to wrap up the game. Team: D Dignan, D O’Brien, M

his loyalty to the club. We wish him the best of luck. Anyone

Shield trophy that Ross won recently. These young footballers had an
eventful season with a match or training every Saturday morning. The
club would like to extend its thanks to Michael O’Rourke and his
fellow trainers and coaches who gave their time to these youngsters

Rosscarbery under 16
footballers advanced to the county championship final when they
defeated Sam Maguire’s on Saturday last in Dunmanway, winning on a
score-line of 4-05 to 1-06. The Ross boys played with a strong wind
in the first half and were slow to settle, indeed their was a
quarter of the match gone before they got their first score. This
was a brilliant point from a sideline kick from the boot of Thomas
O’Rourke, which tied up the game. Shortly after Timmy O’Donoghue was
on hand to punch the ball to the back of the net. Another goal
followed as Paul Shanahan converted a penalty and Timmy finished off
the half with a point from play to leave the Ross boys winning on a
score line of 2-2 to 2 points.
Ross had it all to
do in the second period as they faced the elements and especially as
Sam Maguire’s goaled in the first minute. Timmy pointed a free along
with one from play before Paul converted his second spot kick and
Ross were looking good as Sean O’Regan had a pointed free. The game
was really wrapped up when Timmy punched his second goal and their
was no way back for the home side despite scoring four second half
points. Ross will be pleased to be in the final but a big improvement
on their first half performance will be needed. In fairness the
second period was much better and Michéal O’Donovan came more into
the game along with fellow backs Michael Hourihan and Stephen
Vickery. Cathal Prendergast too had a fine game while Timmy did most
of the scoring, Gearóid O’Brien did a lot of hard work and the
return of Terry O’Donovan after suspension should further strengthen
the forwards. The final will be probably
be played on the 14th of November
against either Youghal or Millstreet at a venue to be
decided. Team: Donal Dignan, Damien
O’Brien, Michéal O’Donovan, Michael Hourihane, Stephen Vickery,
David Flavin, Eamonn O’Mahony, Cathal Prendergast, Thomas O’Rourke,
Gearóid O’Brien, Sean O’Regan, Tadgh O’Mahony, Brian Hodnett, Timmy
O’Donoghue, Paul Shanahan. Subs: Brian Hayes, Vincent Hodnett and
Cian O’Mahony.

now qualify for the knock out stages.

Numbers drawn were 1, 7 and 14, Lucky dip winners were €50 Denis

O’Driscoll’s Bar Reenascreena for a jackpot of
€1200. 21-10-09
Carbery Rangers senior footballers were crowned league
champions when they defeated county champions and near neighbours
Clonakilty in the final of the Kelleher Shield, played in Dunmanway
last Sunday. The Ross men had to field without three of their
championship starting team, and the loss of competitive action over
the past few months was expected to give the edge to their
opponents, who are still involved in the
Munster
championship
after their recent county championship success. It was Clon who scored
first but that lead only lasted for a short while before Declan
Hayes and John O’Rourke combined to put Seamus Hayes through for a
brilliant goal and Ross were never to be led again as they dominated
proceedings for the remainder of the half. Indeed they were also
unlucky not to score a couple of more goals as they pushed forward.
At the other end Maurice Moloney was in superb form stopping a
penalty and another point blank save to deny the Clon men a way back
into the game. Ross led at the break by 1-05 to 2 points thanks to
points from Seamus (3) Michael Mennis (1) and Johnny Murphy (1).
In the second period the
county champions fought their way back into contention and reduced
the lead down to 2 points. Ross picked it up again and second half
scores from John Hayes (3) and Brian Shanahan (1) put them ahead at
the final whistle on a score line of 1-09 to 9 points. This was
Carbery Rangers first competitive senior final victory since joining
the senior ranks and was a tremendous achievement for the club,
holding the current county champions to a single point from play in
the process. The Kelleher Shield Trophy was presented to team
captain Seamus Hayes by county board Represintive James O’Neill
after the game. Seamus thanked his fellow players and panellists for
the amount of work they put in, also to the selectors Johnny Murphy,
Mick Connolly, Jeremy Murphy and the Carbery Rangers officers and
backroom team before wishing Clonakilty the best of luck in their
quest for further honours in the
Munster
championship.
Rosscarbery under 16
footballers advanced further in the championship with a comfortable
win over Passage on Saturday last in a game played in
Newtown
. Ross did most
of the good work in the first half and thanks to two late goals from
Damien O’Brien and Terry O’Donovan, Ross were in control at the
break on a score of 2-06 to 3 points. The second half was a scrappy
affair with both teams content with playing out the remaining time
just adding 3 points each and the dismissal of a player from each
side on the stroke of full time was unnecessary and will be a source
of disappointment to the home side as they continue their journey
this Saturday against Dunmanway in Clonakilty, at 3pm in the county
semi final. Congratulations to Gabriel
O’Driscoll Reenascreena who won the club lotto jackpot prize of
€3600 last week. The numbers drawn were 11, 12 and 13, next week the
jackpot prize is €1000 and the draw takes place in O’Brien’s

14-10-09 Carbery Rangers U16
footballers made the short journey to Clonakilty’s impressive
pavilion at Ahamilla on Saturday last, to take on Sam-Maguire’s in
the West Cork Final. Both teams were slow to get started as scores
were hard got, with Ross leading by 6 points to 2 points. Thanks
mostly goes to the accurate free taking of Sean O’Regan and the
strong play of David Flavin and Cathal Prendergast. A miss-directed
free out of Rosscarbery’s defence left Sam’s in for an opportunist
goal on the stroke of half time. Ross turned to play with the sun
and slight wind to their backs, but it was Sam’s who took the game
to Ross. Quickly equalising and then taking the lead for the first
time, ten minutes into the second half. Ross dug deep and excellent
play by Michael Hourihane, Thomas O’Rourke and Gearoid O’Brien drove
Ross forward. Soon the teams were level. A goal and two points were
soon to follow from the boot of the hard-working Terry O’Donovan
which gave Ross a great boost. Ross were five points up with seven
minutes to go, when Sam’s struck for goal to set up a grand stand
finish. Once again Ross dug deep and hung on with two late pointed
frees by Sean O’Regan. This left the final score: Carbery Rangers
1-13 to Sam Maguire’s 2-6.
This was a welcomed victory for the Rangers as under age
championships have eluded the club recently. Well done to all
involved with the team. The cup was presented to a Jubilant Ross
captain, Michéal O’Donovan by Board na nÓg secretary Eddie Moloney.
Ross now play the city winners next weekend in Ross. Scorers for

Ross minor footballers bowed out of the
championship at the semi-final stage on Saturday last when they were
defeated by Bantry on a score line of 10 points to 6. Ross were slow
to settle and were three points down after 10 minutes, which left
them chasing the game from early on. Things didn’t improve in the
remainder of the half and Ross were down 7 points to 2 at the break.

break. All but one of the Ross scores came from play, with seven

Carbery Rangers’ minor team advanced to the
semi-final of the Premier county championship when they defeated
O’Donovan Rossa by a single point after extra time in a trilling
contest, at Castlehaven on Sunday last. Ross were playing well in
the first half and were in control until Skibb struck for a goal
after on the quarter hour mark and took a two point lead at the
break. Ross trailed by five points with 10 minutes remaining when
Peter Nagle found the back of the net with a blistering shot to
bring Ross right back into contention and were level three minutes
later, as they mounted a spirited fight back. Both teams traded
points in the remaining time and it was 1-11 each at full time. In
extra time Ross dominated the first period and scored four points
while conceding only one. The final period was full of excitement as

Rosscarbery under 12 hurlers played 2 championship matches over
the past week. First up it was against Kilbree in the replay in
Ardfield. After a close encounter Ross won on a score of 1-01 to 1
point. The backs played really well in this encounter with Danny
Reynolds putting in a top class performance in the back line and
John Hodnett in goal was superb. Adam O’Mahony was very impressive
while Adam Barrett finished the all important goal with Jack
O’Donoghue getting the point. It was off to Timoleague for the semi
final next against Kilbrittain and once again Ross came out on top
with Ciaran Prendergast and Cathal O’Rourke getting 2 goals each. We
also had goals from Brian Calnan, Michéal O’Mahony and Jack. Davy
O’Donovan at midfield scored a fine point and Robert Hegarty had 2
very impressive outings well assisted in the back line by Edmund
Beese and Sean Gordan. Maurice Allshire was doing a lot of hard work
while Cian Daly was very impressive Subs: Denis O’Driscoll, Brian
O’Sullivan, Cathal Hennessy, Cian O’Hea, Chris Prendergast, Arron
O’Flynn, Kieran Vickery and Stephen O’Donoghue all played in a 7-01
to 0-01 victory to qualify for the final against Timoleague.

The U-10's took to the
field at
11am to participate in an exciting blitz
against Skibbereen, Dunmanway and Fermoy. Ross defeated Skibbereen
by a goal but were beaten by Dunmanway and in a very closely
contested game against Fermoy they tenaciously hung on for a two
point victory, Carbery Rangers would like to thank Dunmanway for
inviting them to what was a very well organised event with all
participants receiving medals and refreshments after their
efforts.

The replay of the Rosscarbery versus Kilbree game in
the under 12 hurling championship went ahead in Ardfield on Monday
evening last. Both sides put up a good show in the first half under
extreme weather conditions with wind rain and fog making it
difficult and the sides were level at the break when the referee
called off the game as the rain got worse. And so they will have to
meet for a third time to get a result.
The Carbery Rangers senior
team played their final league game of the season on Saturday
evening when they recorded a good victory over Glenville on a score
of 2-14 to 1-09. Carbery Rangers have a total of 15 points and lead
the table at the moment while a number of other clubs have games to
play before the final league table will be finalized.

Our under 16 hurlers were in championship action
last week against Ahan Gaels in Rossmore and were narrowly defeated
by 4-10 to 4-08. Ross trailed at one stage in the second half by 11
points and put up a really great show in the final 20 minutes coming
within a whisker of victory as the final effort grazed the post in
the dying seconds, an effort that would have given them the victory,
but it was not to be and so ended their championship hopes for
another year. Team: Paul Shanahan, Gearóid O’Brien, Cathal
Prendergast, Kieran O’Sullivan, Eamonn O’Mahony, Ruben O’Hea,
Michéal O’Donovan, Terry O’Donovan, Timmy O’Donoghue, Thomas
O’Rourke, David Flavin, Cian O’Mahony, Conor O’Brien, Daniel
Hodnett, Brian Hayes. The junior d team played
Muintir Bhaire on Saturday evening in Durrus and were defeated by 9
points to 5. The result was disappointing as Ross had played a few
recent league matches and had got good results. The scoring was low
and it took a quarter of an hour before the first score was
registered by half time the Rangers were trailing 5 points to 2 and
a big effort was required in the heavy surface as the rain poured
down. Ross did not score until the last 10 minutes and at this stage
they trailed 9 points to 2. Despite scoring 3 on the trot it was too
little to late and so they bowed out of the championship for another
season.

continued on their winning ways on Sunday last winning the
Timoleague Harvest Festival blitz. Ross played Bandon in their
opening game and came out easy winners. Sam-Maguires had also come
out winners in their opening game against Timoleague. It was Carbery
Rangers and Sam-Maguires in the final. Ross played with a strong
wind in the first half with a nice lead of 3-5 to 0-1. Dunmanway
with the wind in the second half played well but were unlucky to see
their shots go narrowly wide on 3 or 4 occasions. Ross broke up the
field to score a few nice points as well as a goal and came out
winners on this occasion. It was a great team performance and this
team are improving in every game. The club would like to thank
