The U12 hurlers had two league games
last week, firstly they travelled to Pedlars. In a high scoring game
the Rangers led by one point at the short whistle. After a superb
performance from both sides in a trilling second half the Rangers
took the spoils on a score of Ross 8-08 Pedlars 5-12. On Saturday
last they welcomed Timoleague to Newtown
for their fourth league match. In a competitive encounter the home
side led by 4 points at half time, but credit to the visitors who
upped their game to earn a deserved draw. Score 2-4 each. Team:

Friday evening last saw the U12 hurlers travel to Castletownkennagh
to play the home side in the league. In the first half Mathunas took
full advantage of the wind to take a three point advantage at the
break. They held a four point lead well into the second half when
Darren Hayes struck for two well taken goals with ten minutes
remaining. In a very close fought finale Ross had a two point
advantage at the final whistle score Ross 3-01 D.O

On Thursday evening last Ross U12
hurlers travelled to Kilbrittain to take on the home side in the
league. This was the Rangers first outing in this year campaign. The
night was wet and both sides exchanged early scores. Ross exerted a
lot of pressure around the middle of the field and took some fine
scores. They ran out winners on a score of 6-6 to 1-2

6-03 Football Championship 08-06-10 Rosscarbery U12 footballers made their exit from the
championship at the County semi final stage when they were defeated
by a physically stronger Castlelyons, team in Innishannon on Tuesday
evening in wet conditions. Ross started the brightest and were well
in command in the first ten minutes clocking up 1-5 in the process.
In the first attack the Castlelyons boys got a goal and as the game
progressed Ross were finding it hard to break down their defence,
while at the other end the opposition availed of every opportunity
and led at the break 4-1 to 1-7. In the second half Ross piled on
the pressure but found scores hard to come by and had the lead down
to a single point with ten minutes remaining. But for all their
effort they could not get any closer and as time ran out Castlelyons
scored 2 late goals to give them a comfortable margin at the end 6-3
to 1-9.

U12 footballers defeated Millstreet in the quarter final of the
Cork county championship in
Ardagh on Saturday last by 5-08 to 3-04. Ross were first to get on
the scoreboard when Darragh Hayes finished off a good movement to
the back of the net. Another goal from John Hodnett had Ross in
front by 2-01, before Millstreet got a goal which was their first
score and it arrived on the quarter hour mark. From there to the
break Ross added on three points and a cracking goal from Maurice
Allshire after Adam O’Mahony won a great ball on the wing. In the
second half Millstreet came more into the game and scored another
goal to bring the sides closer 3-6 to 2-4. Once again Adam delivered
a long ball into the forwards and after a scramble John O’Brien was
on hand to find the net for the Ross boys. Midfielder Robert Hegarty caped off a fine performance with a goal, and
despite conseading a goal late in the game Ross were well
in

Football Championship Final 17-05-10
The disappointment of Sundays game
turned to joy on the following evening at Castlehaven when Ross U12
footballers defeated Skibbereen in the final of the West Cork
championship by 4-11 to 3-10. This was a a really terrefic
performance from the Ross boys who defeated Kilmeen the prervious
week in the semi final by a comfortable margin. Ross were well on
top in the opening half and the back line
of Jack Maguire, Chris and Ciaran
Prendergast stood firm while goalie Cathal Hennessy was very
dependable. Sean Gordan was a tower of strength at center back with
Adam O’Mahony and Cal Keane catching the eye on the wings. Midfield
gave the edge to Ross where Maurice Allshire did a lot of work and
team captain Robert Hegarty scored a hat trick of goals which helped
Ross to a interval lead of 4-7 to 2-3.
Skibbereen played a great second half and came back into the
game to make a really exciting finish. Mark Hodnett scored some fine
points in this half and Aaron O’Flynn and John O’Brien worked hard
on half forward line. Full forward John Hodnett was a handfull for
his marker while Stephen O’Donoghue scored two points and Darragh
Hayes was a joy to watch in the corner. Well done to Subs: Arron

Rosscarbery Defeated Newcestown Football Championship 05-05-10
In
U12 football championship Rosscarbery played Newcestown in the first
round last Wednesday. Ross were well on top in the first half thanks
to two goals from Stephen O’Donoghue and one each from John Hodnett
and Arron Harte. Ross added another eight points in this half. Ross
relaxed a bit and Newcestown came into the game in the second half
and struck back with 4 goals. Ross replied with a Robert Hegarty
goal to give Ross the victory. Ross
also had a fine displays from Ciaran Prendergast, Cal Keane and
Maurice Allshire and advance to meet Kilmeen in the next round.

Rosscarbery U12 footballers had a good win over Sam Maguire’s in the
league last week. In an even first quarter Ross trailed by a point
before hitting the back of the net 3 times to give them a lead at
the interval of 3-05 to 1-04. The second period saw more goals for
both sides and Ross were flattered by the final score of 7-11 to
4-7, as the sides were more equal then the score line would suggest.

Rosscarbery under 12 hurlers played 2
championship matches over the past week. First up it was against
Kilbree in the replay in Ardfield. After a close encounter Ross won
on a score of 1-01 to 1 point. The backs played really well in this
encounter with Danny Reynolds putting in a top class performance in
the back line and John Hodnett in goal was superb. Adam O’Mahony was
very impressive while Adam Barrett finished the all important goal
with Jack O’Donoghue getting the point. It was off to Timoleague for
the semi final next against Kilbrittain and once again Ross came out
on top with Ciaran Prendergast and Cathal O’Rourke getting 2 goals
each. We also had goals from Brian Calnan, Michéal O’Mahony and
Jack. Davy O’Donovan at midfield scored a fine point and Robert
Hegarty had 2 very impressive outings well assisted in the back line
by Edmund Beese and Sean Gordan. Maurice Allshire was doing a lot of
hard work while Cian Daly was very impressive Subs: Denis

On Saturday last the U12 hurlers welcomed Kilbrittain
to Ardagh for round 2 of the league. The visitors played with the
aid of a strong wind in the first half. Scoring proved
difficult with the wind and at half time the score line was Ross
1-02 Kilbrittain 1-00. With the wind to their backs the
Rangers piled on the pressure and took some lovely scores to win the

holiday Monday Ross U12 hurlers travelled to Ballinscarthy to take
on the home side in round 1 of the league. In a very evenly
contested first half both sides traded score for score. The Ross
forwards had some beautifully taken goals and they led 5.01 to 2.03
at the break. After the resumption the Ross midfielders started
to gain the upper hand and two more goals followed stretching their
lead. When the final whistle blew the score line read Pedlars 3-05
Rangers 7-01.

footballers had a comfortable win over a very young Skibbereen side
played in ideal weather conditions on Monday evening last. Ross got
off to a flying start with goals from Danny Reynolds (2) Adam
Barrett and David O’Donovan plus some well taken points which saw
them well ahead at the break. Skibbereen did rally early in the
second half but goals from Kieran Vickery and Adam Barrett put the
game out of reach for them

12 footballers had a good win over Bandon in the league last Monday
evening winning on a score of 3-09 to 1-03. The game was even after
the first 10 minutes as the sides were level 2 points each Ross then

break the second half saw Danny Reynolds completed his hat trick as

Ross U12 footballers travelled to Bantry on Monday
night last to play the first round of the league. After an exiting
first half the teams were level on a score of 1-06 each. The Ross
full back line in particular gave a heroic display. The second half
started well for Ross but a more physical Bantry side began to
dominate mid-way through this half. Ross did rally in the last 5
minutes but were denied a goal which would have brought them close

Ross U12’s played Bandon in a League Final in perfect conditions at
Ardagh on Sunday last. A physically stronger Bandon team, dominated
for most of the first half but the home team rallied for ten minutes
before the break and were only a single point behind at the half
time whistle. Bandon resumed play in a determined fashion scoring
1-02 in the first five minutes of the second half. Ross refused to
yield and a goal and a point from Adam Barrett put them back in
contention. Some very determined play from the backs held Bandon and
Ross were very unlucky when a shot from John Hodnett rebound off the
post. Bandon won on a score of 1-10 to 1-07. This was a great
performance by this team which showed great improvement during the

Ross U-12’s travelled to Skibbereen to play the home side in the
league semi final on Monday evening last and playing against the
wind in the first half they found themselves under pressure for a
lot of this period, but a superb display from all the backs and
goalie insured that the green flag wasn’t raised for Skibb. Ross
scored three points and a goal by midfielder Jerry O’Riordan meant
Ross were leading 1-03 to 0-04 at the break. Skibbereen had to
substitute two of their best players for the second half due to
injury and with the wind to their backs Ross were the stronger team
and two goals from David O’Donovan and another from John Hodnett put
them comfortably ahead further goal by Austin Keane and Jerry
O’Riordan meant the game was beyond the reach of a valiant Skibb
side. They now play Bandon in the final probably on Sunday, the

U-12’s played Bantry in Newtown
on last Thursday evening but lost to a much stronger Bantry side on
a score of 2-10 to 0-06. They were out again on Monday night to
finish their league program when they played Clonakilty. While the
sides were well balanced for a good portion of the game, Clon
finished well winning comfortable at the final whistle with a score
of 3-08 to 2-04 for Ross.

league the previous week a tough game was anticipated. Ross started

out easy winners on a score of 3-15 to 0-04 and so qualified for the

28-04-08 The championship game was on
Monday evening against Drimoleague in Skibbereen. In a low scoring
first half Ross pounced for the all important goal just before the
half time whistle to lead 1-03 to 0-02 at the break. The second half
was also low scoring and an early goal for Ross gave them a seven
point advantage. However Drimoleague got a goal and a couple of
points to narrow the gap to just two points. Ross had a late point

impressive Ilen Og team in a league fixture last Monday night.

Newcestown were visitors to Ross on Monday evening to play the
locals in the under 12 league and went home with a victory on a
score of 1-12 to 2-08. In the start Newcestown were well in command
but as the half drew to a close Ross were getting to play much
better and were unlucky to be trailing by six points at the break.
In the second period Ross had a number of near goal chances as they
pressed to get back into the game and when the goal finally arrived
another followed soon after and the game was evenly balanced, indeed
Ross held a one point lead as the game was drawing to a conclusion,
it was then that Newcestown struck for the all important goal which
gave them a narrow one point victory despite a late point for the
