Ross followed with 3 fine points to Newcestown’s 1 before the break. Once again Ross dominated the game in the second half but could not put Newcestown away. They nearly paid the price when they conceded a penalty in the last 10 minutes and if converted would have leveled the game, but a fine save urged on the Rangers and they finished with 2 fine goals to finally put the game beyond reach of their opponents. Carbery Rangers 1-04 Youghal 2-06             22-11-09 County Final
Rosscarbery under 16 footballers played Youghal in the County Final in Youghal, on Sunday last and were defeated on a final score of 2-07 to 1-04. Ross were playing with a strong wind in the first half and had built up a 1-03 lead after just 10 minutes, however another point was all they had to show for the remainder of the game. Youghal got their first score of the game on the quarter hour mark which was a well worked goal, they were level after the second minute in the turn around and picked off three more points to give them the advantage. Ross tried hard to come back but in the heavy conditions found progress hard to make against a physically stronger team. In the final minutes Ross had the ball on the Youghal goal line but could not get it past it and in the final kick of the match Youghal scored their second goal to wrap up the game. Carbery Rangers 4-05 Sam Maguire's 1-06              24-10-09 County Semi Final

Rosscarbery under 16 footballers advanced to the county championship final when they defeated Sam Maguire’s on Saturday last in Dunmanway, winning on a score-line of 4-05 to 1-06. The Ross boys played with a strong wind in the first half and were slow to settle, indeed their was a quarter of the match gone before they got their first score. This was a brilliant point from a sideline kick from the boot of Thomas O’Rourke, which tied up the game. Shortly after Timmy O’Donoghue was on hand to punch the ball to the back of the net. Another goal followed as Paul Shanahan converted a penalty and Timmy finished off the half with a point from play to leave the Ross boys winning on a score line of 2-2 to 2 points.

Ross had it all to do in the second period as they faced the elements and especially as Sam Maguire’s goaled in the first minute. Timmy pointed a free along with one from play before Paul converted his second spot kick and Ross were looking good as Sean O’Regan had a pointed free. The game was really wrapped up when Timmy punched his second goal and their was no way back for the home side despite scoring four second half points.

Ross will be pleased to be in the final but a big improvement on their first half performance will be needed. In fairness the second period was much better and Michéal O’Donovan came more into the game along with fellow backs Michael Hourihan and Stephen Vickery. Cathal Prendergast too had a fine game while Timmy did most of the scoring, Gearóid O’Brien did a lot of hard work and the return of Terry O’Donovan after suspension should further strengthen the forwards.

The final will be probably be played on the 14th of November against either Youghal or Millstreet at a venue to be decided.

Team: Donal Dignan, Damien O’Brien, Michéal O’Donovan, Michael Hourihane, Stephen Vickery, David Flavin, Eamonn O’Mahony, Cathal Prendergast, Thomas O’Rourke, Gearóid O’Brien, Sean O’Regan, Tadgh O’Mahony, Brian Hodnett, Timmy O’Donoghue, Paul Shanahan. Subs: Brian Hayes, Vincent Hodnett and Cian O’Mahony.

Carbery Rangers 2-09 Passage 0-06              17-10-09 County Quarter Final

Rosscarbery under 16 footballers advanced further in the championship with a comfortable win over Passage on Saturday last in a game played in Newtown . Ross did most of the good work in the first half and thanks to two late goals from Damien O’Brien and Terry O’Donovan, Ross were in control at the break on a score of 2-06 to 3 points. The second half was a scrappy affair with both teams content with playing out the remaining time just adding 3 points each and the dismissal of a player from each side on the stroke of full time was unnecessary and will be a source of disappointment to the home side as they continue their journey this Saturday against Dunmanway in Clonakilty, at 3pm in the county semi final.

Carbery Rangers 1-13 Sam Maguires 2-06              10-10-09 West Cork Final

Carbery Rangers U16 footballers made the short journey to Clonakilty’s impressive pavilion at Ahamilla on Saturday last, to take on Sam-Maguire’s in the West Cork Final. Both teams were slow to get started as scores were hard got, with Ross leading by 6 points to 2 points. Thanks mostly goes to the accurate free taking of Sean O’Regan and the strong play of David Flavin and Cathal Prendergast. A miss-directed free out of Rosscarbery’s defence left Sam’s in for an opportunist goal on the stroke of half time. Ross turned to play with the sun and slight wind to their backs, but it was Sam’s who took the game to Ross. Quickly equalising and then taking the lead for the first time, ten minutes into the second half. Ross dug deep and excellent play by Michael Hourihane, Thomas O’Rourke and Gearoid O’Brien drove Ross forward. Soon the teams were level. A goal and two points were soon to follow from the boot of the hard-working Terry O’Donovan which gave Ross a great boost. Ross were five points up with seven minutes to go, when Sam’s struck for goal to set up a grand stand finish. Once again Ross dug deep and hung on with two late pointed frees by Sean O’Regan. This left the final score: Carbery Rangers 1-13 to Sam Maguire’s 2-6.

This was a welcomed victory for the Rangers as under age championships have eluded the club recently. Well done to all involved with the team. The cup was presented to a Jubilant Ross captain, Michéal O’Donovan by Board na nÓg secretary Eddie Moloney. Ross now play the city winners next weekend in Ross. Scorers for Ross: Sean O’Regan 0-6, Timmy O’Donoghue 0-3, Terry O’Donovan 1-2, Paul Shanahan and Gearoid O’Brien 1 point each. Panel: Dónal Dignan, Damien O’Brien, Michéal O’Donovan, Michael Hourihane, Stephen Vickery, David Flavin, Eamonn O’Mahony, Thomas O’Rourke, Cathal Prendergast, Terry O’Donovan, Gearoid O’Brien, Sean O’Regan, Timmy O’Donoghue, Paul Shanahan, Brian Hayes, Tadgh O’Mahony, Brian Hodnett, Vincent Hodnett, Cian O’Mahony, Patrick McCarthy, Matt O’Brien and James O’Neill.

Rosscarbery 2-11 Ilen Og 0-10                 Football Championship 04-10-09
Then on Sunday last it was off to Castlehaven to play Ilen Óg in the semi-final. After a great start Ross led by 1-04 to no score after just 7 minutes and looked likely to gain a easy win, but Ilen had other ideas and had the lead down to just two points at the same stage in the second half, before Ross regained their superiority and a goal from Terry O’Donovan put them on the road to the final but not before Dónal Dignan made two fine saves to deny Ilen the goal that they hunted for. Michéal O’Donovan at full back had a very busy afternoon and his numerous block downs when Ilen looked likely to score were a contributing factoring in this win. Sean O’Regan had an impressive start while Paul Shanahan was always a threat in the forward line. Thomas O’Rourke in defence was a commanding figure as was mid fielders David Flavin and Cathal Prendergast along with Gearóid O’Brien who transferred from defence to the forward line for this encounter. Ross have now qualified the final against Dunmanway on Saturday next in Clonakilty at 5pm. Team: Dónal Dignan, Michael Hourihane, Michéal O’Donovan, Damien O’Brien, Stephen Vickery,  Thomas O’Rourke, Eamonn O’Mahony, Cathal Prendergast, David Flavin, Cian O’Mahony, Terry O’Donovan, Gearóid O’Brien, Timmy O’ Donoghue, Sean O’Regan, Paul Shanahan. Ross done most of the damage in the first half and had a 1-8 to 1 point lead at the break. All but one of the Ross scores came from play, with seven different players getting on the score sheet which will please the selectors, but sterner tests await them as they face Ilen Óg in Castlehaven on Sunday at 5pm in the next round. Under 15 League

Rosscarbery 2-05 Ballincollig 2-10

Ballincollig made the trip to Ross on Sunday morning to play our under 15 team in the league. The home team were dealt a blow from the start when they conceded a goal almost from the throw in. But thanks to some lovely passing movements Ross were level at the break after Christopher O'Donovan got 3 points, while Terry O’Donovan got a point and a cracking goal. In the second half Eoin Lanegot off the mark with a point then Christopher finished a great move to the back of the net. Ross led at this point 2-05 to 1-04, but amazingly it was to be their last score as a physically stronger Ballincollig team took a grip and went into the lead with six unanswered points, and just as they had started they finished with a goal in the final minute to run out winners on a score line of Ballincollig 2-10 Rosscarbery 2-05.
